Center Erica Collins and forward Ashley Smith will be joining Leonard in sprint events. She is joined by two other Lady Tiger basketball players on this year's track squad. She hopes to one day become a physical therapist. She counts Rihanna and Monica as her favorite artists and Candace Parker and Michael Jordan as her favorite athletes. Outside of sports, Leonard says that she enjoys writing and listening to music. The coach also praised Leonard's track and field IQ and described her as a "pleasure to coach." "She also brings talent, and she is extremely, extremely versatile… I can plug her in anywhere." "What Jasmine Leonard brings to the program is experience," he said. Hankerson was extremely positive talking about Leonard's contributions to his team. Jasmine clearly values the relationship with the former all-SEC sprinter and first-year CCC coach, citing him as a big reason that she decided to attend Coahoma. Hankerson has served as a track mentor for her ever since. Leonard's father coached a summer track squad with new CCC head coach Reggy Hankerson while Jasmine was still in junior high. She medaled in the 400m dash, 4x400m relay and the 100 m dash in her time at Whitestation High, and was named to the All-State team and the USATF All-American squad. Leonard has been around track most of her life. RIHANNA REGGY FULLA 57-second clock-in would be a full second better than the mark she set at Whitestation. "My personal goal in the 400 is to run a 57 or below," Leonard declared after a recent track practice. Though she has been dealing with the ripple effects of a strained MCL, she is planning on eclipsing the personal bests she set in high school. With track and field set to kick off just a couple weeks after the hoops year ended, Leonard has had to make a quick transition, ramping up the training to be physically and mentally prepared for CCC's 7 meets this spring. The sophomore knocked down 2 early 3's and played a season-high 29 minutes in the CCC 2014-15 finale at Northeast on February 21. She appeared in 20 games this season for the Lady Tiger basketball team, shooting 53.8% from the field and 60% from beyond the arc. Leonard, of course, is no stranger to donning a CCC uniform. Leonard, a sprinter, is expected to compete in the 200m and 400m sprints and all relay events. The freshman from Whitestation High in Memphis is gearing up along with the rest of the CCC Track and Field squad for the season-opening meet this Saturday at Mississippi College. CLARKSDALE- Jasmine Leonard is ready to run.
